Margaret Kapalama Couttie, 80, of Kapaau died Sept. 20 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Kohala, she was a retired cafeteria baker at Kohala High and Elementary School, member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Kohala Senior Citizens, ‘Ahahui Ka’ahumanu ‘O Kohala, Na Kupuna ‘O Kohala, Kohala Gateball Club and Kohala Kumiai. Visitation 8:30-9:30 a.m. Saturday (Nov. 16) at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hawi. Memorial Mass at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at the Hawi Catholic Cemetery. Casual attire. Survived by daughter, Elizabeth (Moses) Bautista of Kohala; sister, Miriam Ray of Kohala; brother, Dickie Richards of Las Vegas; four grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Elena Mitsuyo (Cambra) Hanashiro, 64, of Pepeekeo died Oct. 29, 2024 at her son’s Hilo home. Born in Hilo, she was a retired clerk-typist for the former Hilo Medical Center, and enjoyed sewing and crafting. Private services. Survived by sons, Jeromie (Jennifer) Erece of Hilo, Nicholas “Nick” (Amy) Erece of Hilo and Shaun Erece of Pepeekeo; hanai son, Justin Hanashiro-Hiyoto of Hilo; sister, Eunice (Ray Okabayashi) Domingo of Pepeekeo; brother, Evan Cambra of Hilo; nine grandchildren; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Gary George Houston, 76, of Kailua-Kona died Sept. 14 in Kealakekua. Born in Oakland, Calif., he was a landscaper, had a great love for the game of pool and donated his pool table to Yano Hall, where his family suggests you enjoy a game in his memory.
